Dodital – The Sacred Alpine Lake

Hidden within dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron, Dodital is a pristine freshwater lake revered in Hindu mythology. According to legend, Lord Ganesha was born here, making it a place of deep spiritual significance. The lake’s still waters, forested surroundings, and snow-lined ridges create a calm, meditative atmosphere—perfect for quiet reflection, acclimatisation, and reconnecting with nature.

 

Detailed Itinerary

Arrive Dehradun – Drive to Mussoorie / Kanatal (2,000–2,250 m)

Arrive in Dehradun and begin a scenic drive to the peaceful hill town of Mussoorie or Kanatal. The journey gradually ascends into the lower Himalaya, offering refreshing mountain air and panoramic views of forested ridges and distant peaks.

This day allows the body to begin gentle acclimatisation while you settle into the mountain environment.

Day 2: Drive to Agora Village – Trek to Bebra (2,200 m)

After breakfast, drive along the Bhagirathi River through Uttarkashi to Agora Village, the starting point of the Dodital trek. The route passes through scenic valleys, terraced farmlands, and traditional Garhwali settlements.

From Agora, begin a short trek to Bebra, walking through forest trails and village paths. Set up camp near the village and spend the evening relaxing and acclimatising.

Day 3: Trek from Bebra to Manjhi (2,800 m)

Begin trekking through dense forests of oak, pine, maple, and rhododendron. The trail ascends gradually alongside clear mountain streams and shaded forest paths, offering a peaceful and immersive experience in the Himalayas.

Manjhi is a beautiful forest clearing used traditionally as a seasonal campsite, making it ideal for rest and acclimatisation.

Day 4: Trek from Manjhi to Dodital (3,310 m)

Continue trekking through thick forest as the trail gently climbs towards Dodital Lake. As you approach, the trees part to reveal a serene alpine lake, surrounded by forested slopes and mountain ridges.

Visit the small Ganesha Temple near the lake and spend time soaking in the tranquil, spiritual atmosphere of this sacred place.

Distance: 6 km | Time: 3–4 hrs

Day 5: Trek from Dodital to Darwa Pass (4,150 m) – Descend to Kanasar

Start early for the most rewarding day of the trek. Ascend steadily towards Darwa Pass, passing alpine meadows and high-altitude terrain. From the pass, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

After spending time at the pass, descend carefully through forest and meadow trails to Kanasar campsite.

Distance: 7 km | Time: 5–6 hrs
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6: Trek from Kanasar to Kandoli

Descend gradually through forest trails and remote mountain paths towards Kandoli Village. The trail offers a peaceful walk through lesser-visited sections of the Garhwal Himalaya, with occasional village encounters.

Upon reaching Kandoli, check into a local hotel or guesthouse.
Overnight: Camp

Distance: 8–9 km | Time: 4–5 hrs
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7: Trek to Hanuman Chatti – Drive to Barkot

Trek downhill to Hanuman Chatti, marking the completion of the trekking section. From here, drive to Barkot, located in the Yamunotri Valley.

Trek: 6 km / 3–4 hrs | Drive: 2–3 hrs

Day 8: Drive back through the deep valleys of the Garhwal Himalaya to Dehradun / Rishikesh.

Early morning drive back to Dehradun Airport / Railway Station for onward journey.
